FAQs

How did you come up with your brand?

The idea, actually, was one of many steps in this long journey we call life. But, long story short, I have been a little obsessed with healthy habits post-graduation and now adulting. I actually purchased my first copper bottle after doing a little research to see what the hype was about. Now, I can’t imagine not having my [Cu]pper. Get it? Like copper and cup, but like [Cu] is the periodic symbol for Copper. So, yea.

Are your bottles made of pure copper?

All of our bottles are of 100% pure copper. In fact, the industry is saturated with sellers offering a similar product, but what separates our product is that our bottles are not coated with lacquer. Lacquer is an anti-corrosion coating painted on woods and metals which is certainly not meant for bodily consumption. Also, some sellers sell stainless steel, copper coated bottles that look the part, but serve no healthy purpose.  Our product is made with expert attention to detail and contains no toxic materials of any kind.

Can I get too much copper if I drink from my copper water bottle all the time?

The practice of storing water in copper water bottles dates back centuries. In recent years, the scientific community has shared helpful findings on the popular trend. In fact, recent studies have substantiated that drinking water stored in a copper bottle is safe and quite beneficial for the body. See the following report from the World Health Organization (n.d.).

One study, published in the Journal of Health Population and Nutrition, shares that scientists studied the effects of storing water in a copper pot on microbially contaminated drinking water, including harmful bacteria such as Escherichia coli and salmonella.  This experiment took place for 16 hours at room temperature. Incredibly, following the 16-hour storage period, scientists were unable to recover any bacteria from the water. In addition, the scientists found that the water's pH level had increased, meaning that it had naturally become more alkaline.

Scientists have also determined that the copper content of the water was less than 0.2 ppm (parts per million) which represents an amount far less than the permissible limit set by the WHO

The current WHO guideline of 2 mg Cu/L is safe for consumption and the levels absorbed in the experiment showed permissible limits. The following graph from the report provides a helpful illustration of the rate at which copper was absorbed into the water. In particular, the data shows that the copper levels in the water remained within permissible levels even after several days. This study suggests that storing water in a copper bottle overnight or even for a few days does not pose any risk to health.

Can drinking from a copper water bottle cure my copper deficiency?

If you suffer from a copper deficiency you should be sure to consult a health professional to ensure you are making positive changes needed to resolve your issue.  Drinking water from our product may help mitigate the deficiency. It is important to note the human body does not produce copper naturally and is a nutrient your body must have to function.

Can my copper bottle create alkaline water?

Our [Cu]pper is a great way to naturally alkalize your water. There are two types of alkaline water, and let’s just say the natural way is always better.

How long does it take to create alkaline water?

Water stored in a copper vessel will become increasingly alkaline the longer it remains stored, and the speed and degree of the alkalinization process will depend on various environmental factors, including temperature and its original pH level. In general, we would suggest storing your water overnight for the most beneficial effect, ideally six to eight hours should do the trick.

What type of water should I use in my copper water bottle?

You can use any type of water in your [Cu]pper, including tap water, filtered water, or even bottled water. You will find the greatest difference with tap water, which is generally the least alkaline water source. We might recommend first filtering your water before pouring into your [Cu]pper.

Should I clean my copper water bottle before using it for the first time?

When you receive your [Cu]pper it will be ready to keep you hydrated, but we do recommend cleaning  and rinsing the inside with warm, not hot, water and drop a small amount of liquid soap before first use.

How do I polish and clean my copper bottle?

Easy! There are several natural solutions to clean and polish your [Cu]pper. There is no need to use harmful chemicals and store bought product. Remember your bottle is made of 100% pure copper, so it will naturally patina, or oxidize, over time.  For a quick, easy clean simply sprinkle a pinch of salt on a slice of lemon, allow the salt to dissolve and gently rub it on the surface of your bottle. The lemon and salt will form a mixture that will naturally remove the patina and restore the copper’s shine. Once done, rinse with water and dry well.

The inside of your bottle may patina as well, but this has no affect on the quality of the water stored inside. We recommend cleaning the inside of your bottle every now and then with warm water and light liquid soap. Never wash in the dishwasher!

What does water stored in a copper bottle taste like?

It will be one of the most refreshing, clean bottles of water you will ever taste, and, no it does not taste like metal. Water stored in a copper bottle does absorb the beneficial qualities associated with copper, but doesn’t absorb enough to dramatically change the taste of the water. Should your tongue touch the bottle you may taste a slight hint of copper as you drink.

Is it leak free?

Each of our [Cu]ppers is capped with a leak-proof cap.

Can I use lemon or other fruit with my copper bottle?

There are plenty of benefits of drinking fruit-infused water. What a great idea to combine those benefits with the benefits of your “copper water.” It is best only to use water in your [Cu]pper because copper can react with certain acids (anything with a pH of less than 7.)

Can I use essential oils with my copper water bottle?

We do not recommend adding essential oils directly into your [Cu]pper (as certain very acidic essential oils can react with the copper). You can, though, add these oils to your copper-charged water in a separate container.

Will your copper bottles fit a car cup holder?

Yes. Our bottles fit in a standard-sized car cup holder.

Are your copper water bottles handmade?

Yes, all of our bottles are handmade by skilled artisans using traditional methods. As a result, every bottle will be unique.

Are your copper water bottles lined?

Our bottles are made from 100% copper and do not have any sort of lining. Copper and that's it!

Do you make double-walled or insulated copper bottles?

We make neither of these products. There are two reasons to use a double-walled or insulated bottle: to keep water cold, or to keep it hot. When it comes to cold water, the Ayurvedic way recommends drinking room temperature, or lukewarm, water rather than cold. Cold water can literally douse the digestive fire that builds up in our bodies. Additionally, drinking cold water can freeze enzymes in our gut, which prevent our bodies from properly digesting food, thus increasing the amount of toxins in our bodies.

Room temperature water flushes the lymphatic system, helps soften hardened tissues, dilates, cleans and hydrated deep tissues, and heals and repairs the digestive system. Avoid using hot or boiling water, though, as this can negatively affect your bottle and potentially cause the water to absorb too much copper from your bottle.

Accordingly, because the healthiest approach is to drink room temperature we do not make double-walled or insulated copper bottles. As copper is a very soft metal, and, based on construction methods used to make copper bottles, water stored in double-walled bottles will eventually seep inbetween the two walls and, unbeknownst to you, lead to the formation of mold. We specifically produce our bottles with a single wall to avoid such problems.
